Tattoo Removal

All the tattoo colors are manufactured with an overlap of two shades; primary and secondary, with primary colors fading after a while & the secondary colors showing up. A good example is a black tattoo when done looks black & gradually looks greenish in the years to follow. At Opulence, we use a US-FDA approved laser system utilizing 2 unique laser wavelengths that target both the primary and the secondary colors ensuring complete removal of the tattoo.

1. How does the laser work?

Tattoo ink particles are too large for the body’s immune system to remove naturally. By passing a very short pulse of high power laser light through the skin, the tattoo ink is broken into smaller particles, which the body is able to absorb and eliminate via the lymphatics. Since each individual’s lymphatics have a different rate of filtration power, the tattoo fragments which are broken down instantly by the laser require different intervals as well as the total duration of the treatment.

2. How many treatments are required to remove a tattoo?

Most amateur tattoos require 3 to 5 treatment sessions at monthly intervals. Most professional tattoos typically require 8 to 14 treatment sessions at monthly intervals.

3. What are the costs likely to be?

The cost of each session depends on the size and color of the tattoo. The total cost of the tattoo removal depends on the number of treatments needed and this varies considerably from patient to patient.

4. Do all tattoos respond to treatment?

Every tattoo is different. In the majority of cases we are able to fade most tattoos. No one laser can remove all types of tattoo ink, this is why we use two laser wavelengths on the site to ensure optimal results. Red, black and dark blue are usually easier to fade than white, grey, yellow or orange.

5. How long does it take and does it hurt?

Typical treatment sessions last between 5 and 40 minutes depending on the size of the tattoo. The lasers do cause discomfort during treatment, similar to being “snapped” with a rubber band. Most patients equate the pain of tattoo removal with the pain of getting the tattoo. Some areas are more sensitive than others, such as ankles and the shoulder blade. The pain tends to decrease as treatment progresses and the tattoo ink fades. Most patients tolerate the discomfort of treatment very well, but a local Anesthetic is available if required. Surgical removal is reserved for people on a time budget. It is a minimally invasive procedure requiring 30-60 minutes depending upon the tattoo. Sutures are removed after 5-7 days.
